The app behind the test

Keep the English you have worked for

Vocabulary Gym is for people who already speak English well. It is not a course or a beginners' app: it is five minutes a day that keeps your English where it is, and brings back the words you are losing.

Vocabulary Gym on two iPhones: the home screen with today's workout and a level of 84 out of 100, and a finished workout scoring 95 percent.
  • A daily workout, not a lesson. Twenty questions in five to seven minutes: meanings, synonyms, words in a sentence, and the near-identical pairs that catch everybody out, like affect and effect.
  • It brings back what you are losing. Words that are slipping away return on their own. No lists to make, nothing to schedule.
  • Answer out loud, hands free. Questions are read aloud and you speak your answer, even with the screen locked. Speech is recognised on your device, and you can tap instead whenever you like.
  • A level you can actually read. Your English is scored out of 100, with the CEFR band as an estimate alongside it.
  • Private by design. No account, no ads, no analytics, and nothing leaves your phone.
